Academic Interaction Skills

3.1 Gain confidence speaking in pairs, groups and in front of the class

 

3.2 Participate in short personal discourse related to personal experience

 

3.3 Ask and answer simple questions based on short listening exercises

 

3.4 Focus on language required when interacting with instructors and asking for clarification

Intermediate Level

3.1 Participate in discourse related to common experience, general knowledge, and recently learned information.

 

3.2 Participate in teacher led post listening discussions, with a focus on making inferences

 

3.3 Focus on language making requests for assistance in the classroom, and following spoken instructions.

High Intermediate Level

Academic Interaction Skills

3.1 Initiate and engage in academic classroom discourse on a topic introduced and discussed through class listening exercises.

 

3.2 Participate in teacher and student led discussions in pairs, small groups and as a class, with an emphasis on making inferences

 

3.3 Focus on language use for assisting other students and working with a partner.  Students should be able to give clear instructions and explain ideas to their classmates.

Advanced Level

 

 

Academic Interaction Skills

3.1. Participate in a typical and somewhat complex extended academic discourse, pre or post listening, in a leading role.

 

3.2. Participate in a typical and somewhat complex extended discourse as a member of a discussion group, pre or post listening.

 

3.3 Demonstrate advanced discussion and leadership skills in academic discussions.  These include: 

  • Asking follow up questions

  • Preparing discussion questions

  • Partaking in and leading debates

  • Agreeing and disagreeing formally and politely

  • Using persuasive language

  • Pitching ideas

 

3.4 Focus on language used while effectively carrying out teamwork.
