Paragraph Writing

3.1  Produce 12-15 sentence paragraphs in a variety of writing styles:

  • Compare/Contrast

  • Description

  • Cause or effect

  • Persuasive

 

3.2 Introduction to Essay Writing 

 

3.3 Focus on adjective and adverb clauses, connectors. Intro to transition words combining ideas, cohesion and coherence

Performing Tasks

4.1 Write a paragraph (12-15 sentences) in styles outlined in section 3.

 

4.2 Production of one 5 paragraph non-researched essay of 250-500 words in one of the above rhetorical styles.  All students should use the same instructor specified style. (This is NOT to be a cause or effect essay)

 

4.3 Produce general knowledge paragraphs.

Advanced Level

  • thinking and brainstorming

  • outlining

  • thesis statement

  • topic sentences

  • supporting sentences

Essay Writing

3.1 Students will produce # 5 para graph essays in a variety of rhetorical styles.

  • Cause or Effect

  • Argumentation

  • Research Writing using secondary sources, including peer reviewed journals in one of the above rhetorical styles

 

3.2 Focus on connectors and transition words combining ideas, cohesion and coherence

Performing Tasks

4.1 Write a 5 paragraph cause and effect essay

 

4.2 Write an argumentative essay with counter arguments (6 or more paragraphs)

 

4.3 Research and write a 5, or more, paragraph essay in of of the styles outlined in section 1 using a variety of reliable sources including at least 1 which has been peer reviewed

 

4.4 Produce an annotated bibliography
