For your presentation, you need to...

Know the requirements

  • Carefully reread the instructions.

  • Underline or highlight the important details of the assignment.

  • Ask questions. You might think that asking the instructor makes you look unorganized; in fact, asking questions is an important part of being an active learner.

Understand your topic

Know your audience

  • Try to anticipate what your audience already knows about your topic.

  • Think about how to make your presentation interesting for you audience as your presentation is about delivering a message to them.

Practice your presentation

  • Give yourself enough time to practice your presentation. Effective practice will give you confidence when you deliver your presentation as well as help in other ways (e.g., pronunciation difficulties, editing process).

  • Speak aloud to actually practice.

Relax

  • Remember that almost everyone feels nervous during presentations.

  • There is no easy solution for dealing with presentation nerves, however there are some ways to help alleviate those very normal feelings.

  • Do your best work, but do not strive for perfection. Trying for perfection can be too much pressure. As the saying should be, “practice makes progress!”
