Discussion skills are important aspects of academic life. Sharing ideas means that we have to learn to disagree constructively. You have to make your point while remembering that your words and actions can be hurtful. Even when you disagree, positive discussion is essential in the classroom. As a discussion can come to an abrupt stop from the use of negative language, which can contribute to decreased learning for everyone.
