'Schwa'
'Schwa' is one of the most common sounds in the English language. 'Schwa' is a weak sound that sometimes comes from a vowel in certain words.
Suggested Activity
Game: 'Schwa' BINGO
​
Objective:
Students will hear and say schwa words.
​
Directions:
-
Provide each student with the BINGO handout.
-
Have students write in the words on the handout, into the boxes.
-
When students have finished writing, start the BINGO game by calling out the list of words randomly.
-
Students will cross off the word as the word is called out.
-
When a student completes the agreed requirement (e.g., line, t, x), then they say "BINGO."
-
To check accuracy, the student must say the words aloud.
